"I have always been an artist. Before I could read or write I loved drawing
pictures. My parents encouraged my interest in art; my father was a printer
and would bring home beautiful paper that inspired my earliest creations.
When I took a children's literature course in high school, I knew children's
book illustration was the direction my art would take. In 1990, when I
illustrated my first trade book, this long-time dream was finally realized.
Cut paper is a medium that I find both challenging and expressive. My paper
palette consists of many drawers of colored and textured surfaces. After
selecting the best papers for a subject, I cut, fold, glue, and layer
the shapes into an illustration." Click
